Like most of our neighbors in the Battery Park, the Battery Heritage Foundation at Watson House (7 State Street) suffered catastrophic damage when a tidal surge from the North River crossed the Park and flooded the lower level of our building, destroyed our permanent exhibition, our paintings and all of our furnishings. We expect to restore our historic house and our permanent exhibition and to welcome visitors to the place that played such an important role in serving the Irish immigrant women landing at the Port of New York.
Meanwhile, we are happy to announce that the digitizing and indexing of Mission records continues. When digitized and searchable, the records of the Mission of Our Lady of the Rosary for the Protection of Irish Immigrant Girls will be available on our Battery Heritage Foundation at Watson House Website. Once Watson House is open again, we will continue recruiting docents, announce our scheduled opening hours and resume our symposia and special events.
